Abstract: As generative Al and immersive technologies reshape language education, this panel explores how these innovations support learner agency, global competence, and meaningful engagement. Drawing on diverse classroom experiences and emerging practices, the presentations highlight the transformative potential of Al-powered immersive learning environments. In this panel discussion, Dr Yun Wen examines Al-powered multimodal feedback in Singaporean second language classrooms, focusing on young learners. It discusses how learner agency is shaped through interactions with Al, proposing a shift from traditional feedback models to a framework of shared agency. This perspective invites a rethinking of Al's pedagogical role in language learning. Prof Rustam Shadiev showcases projects that foster global citizenship through Al and VR-assisted cultural exchange. Grounded in contextual learning and constructivist theory, these initiatives use a structured five-step model to enhance students' cultural awareness, language proficiency, and global competence. Practical insights and future directions are shared to support inclusive and immersive education. Finally, Prof Yanjie Song introduces LearningverseVR, a platform combining VR and generative Al to provide English-speaking experiences. Learners interact with Al-driven intelligent agent in realistic settings, such as libraries and banks, promoting vocabulary development, communication strategies, and self-regulated learning. Preliminary findings suggest that immersive environments encourage greater learner engagement and confidence.
Together, these presentations offer theoretical insights and practical applications, illustrating how immersive technologies and Al can enrich language learning and empower learners in diverse contexts.
