Abstract:
In this webinar, I will introduce “learning by recomposition” and advantages of the learning from viewpoints of shared understanding between peers and between peers and a teacher. I will use the concept map as the concrete example of recomposition. Re-composition concept map is a kind of closed concept map where a learner recomposes a concept map (learner map) by using provided components that is extracted by decomposing a concept map (teacher map) created by a teacher or domain expert. The learner map is able to diagnose by overlapping it on the teacher map and extracting the differences between them. The extracted differences are represented as a map (difference map). Moreover, by overlapping multiple learner maps, it is possible to create a map (group map) representing the understanding of a group of the learners. Because the understanding of a teacher and students are represented and visualized by the maps composed of the same components, they are able to talk about the understanding of oneself and others with the shared components. This means that the shared components are used as the language of the teacher and students. In the webinar I will provide an opportunity for participants to use the kit-build concept map system as a demonstration of learning by recomposition.
